With the use of Swimm’s continuous documentation platform, organizations can simplify the process of creating, finding, and maintaining relevant documentation as part of the existing development workflows.

Swimm ensures that documentation is up to date through the introduction of “live” code snippets that automatically sync with changes made to the code base. In addition, the platform offers users access to documentation such as tutorials, guides, and walkthroughs in a secure Web App.

In addition, Swimm announced a $27.6 million Series A funding round. This financing round brings Swimm’s total funding to $33.3 million and was led by Insight Partners with participation from Dawn Capital as well as existing seed investors Pitango First and TAU Ventures.

Python in Visual Studio Code November release

Microsoft recently announced that the November 2021 release of the Python Extension for Visual Studio Code is now available for download from the Marketplace, or directly from the extension gallery in Visual Studio Code. If the Python extension is already installed, you can gain access to the latest update by restarting Visual Studio Code.

As a part of this release, the Microsoft Python Language Server has reached end of life. Legacy language server users should switch to a supported language server such as Pylance or Jedi. If a user has not already transitioned to one of these alternate language servers, they will be flipped to Pylance, the default language support for Visual Studio Code.

Other changes and enhancements with this release include

  • Support environment variable substitution for “python” property in the launch.json file
  • Support for unittestsub-tests
  • Fix for running all tests when using ini
  • And fix unresponsive extension issues

Databricks has announced a $1 billion investment that puts it’s evaluation at $28 billion, and will help support the rapid adoption of the companies’ lakehouse solution.

“We see this investment and our continued rapid growth as further validation of our vision for a simple, open and unified data platform that can support all data-driven use cases, from BI to AI,” said Ali Ghodsi, the CEO and co-founder of Databricks. “Built on a modern lakehouse architecture in the cloud, Databricks helps organizations eliminate the cost and complexity that is inherent in legacy data architectures so that data teams can collaborate and innovate faster.”

The funding was led by the new investor Franklin Templeton and was joined by Fidelity and new strategic investors AWS, CapitalG, and Salesforce Ventures, and Microsoft as a current strategic investor.

Pinecone leaves stealth with vector database as a public beta
The beta of Pinecone vector database was built to provide the infrastructure for ML applications that need to search and rank results based on similarity.

The vector index enables fast indexing and efficient storage for high-dimensional vectors. The API enables updating and querying vector indexes from interfaces such as Jupyter notebooks and can also be used for managing artifacts such as models, indexes, and services, according to the company in a post.

The company also announced $10 million in seed funding led by Wing Venture Capital.

Argo Workflows 3.0 released
Argo Workflows 3.0 includes upgrades to the user interface, brand new APIs for Argo Events, Controller High-Availability, Go modules support, and more.

The new event-flow page allows users to see how their event sources and sensors are connected. Users can now create and update event sources and sensors using the same language they use for workflows.

The new release also introduced a hot-standby workflow controller feature that enables  high availability and quick recovery by the Kubernetes leader election, which will restart a controller pod if it crashes.

Additional details on the new release are available here.

UiPath announces $750 in funding for its fully automated enterprise vision
UiPath announced that it closed $750 million in a Series F funding round and is now valued at $35 million.

UiPath offers the Fully Automated Enterprise platform that provides customers with capabilities for discovering automation opportunities and by helping to build and govern automations throughout an organization.

The Jenkins project has added a new Jenkins plugin to help developers easily read and deploy AWS serverless functions from existing Jenkins pipeline automation processes. The AWS Serverless Application Model (AWS SAM) plugin will increase Jenkins’ support for “as code” configuration, extend users’ ability to adopt modern technology and automate legacy software, and tighten the collaboration between the Jenkins community and AWS, the company explained.

“As development teams adopt new technologies and shift to new platforms, Jenkins remains their tool of choice for orchestrating their continuous delivery pipelines,” said Kohsuke Kawaguchi, founder of Jenkins and CTO of CloudBees. “Serverless applications require the same rigor of testing, compliance and security that all applications require. The combination of AWS SAM and Jenkins allows development teams to employ the tried-and-true continuous delivery practice to the world of serverless application development, thereby helping organizations create great software faster and more efficiently.”

Bitnami opens Stacksmith Public and announces two new tiers to its product family
Application packaging company Bitnami has announced that its application packaging and maintenance product, Stacksmith, is now free to use for applications that use assets from public repositories.

In addition, Bitnami has announced two additional tiers to the Stacksmith Product Family: Stacksmith Team and Stacksmith Enterprise. Stacksmith Team allows teams to share project, use assets from private or public repositories, and deploy on multiple public or private clouds. Stacksmith Enterprise is a single-tenant deployment of Stacksmith, the company explained. Bitnami hopes that this tiered approach will allow users to select the product that best matches their progress on their cloud journey.

AgilePoint is partnering with UiPath on Robotic Process Automation
Low-code provider AgilePoint has announced a partnership with UiPath, an enterprise Robotic Process Automation company. Together the two companies will offer low-code RPA Digital Process Automation (DPA) solutions.

By working together, the companies hope to provide customers with a sustainable digital transformation journey that keeps up with rapid advances in technology.

Red Hat and NVIDIA working together to bring AI to datacenters
Red Hat has announced a collaboration with NVIDIA. The two companies will work to bring  innovations in AI, deep learning, and data science to datacenters around the world.

The company also announced that Red Hat Enterprise Linux has been certified on NVIDIA DGX-1 systems. According to the company, this certification provides a foundation for Red Hat’s other products, including OpenShift, to be deployed and support on NVIDIA’s supercomputers.

“NVIDIA DGX systems combined with NVIDIA-optimized AI software provide a powerful combination of performance, productivity and value to data science workflows from desk-side to datacenter,” said Charlie Boyle, senior director of DGX Systems at NVIDIA. “With the certification of Red Hat Enterprise Linux on DGX-1, we’re enabling enterprise IT to meet the growing demand of customers who expect enterprise support at all layers of the software stack, without inhibiting effortless AI exploration.”

Digital process automation solution provider K2 is joining the robotic process automation (RPA) movement with a new partnership. K2 will join RPA company UiPath to extend their software capabilities. This partnership will allow the two companies to integrate their platforms and enable automation across all parts of the business life cycle.

According to Forrester, although the emergence of low-code digital process automation and RPA platforms have led to an increasing number of digital transformation, manual process still “plague customer experiences.”

“With the meteoric rise of process automation and RPA in the market, our customers are looking for ways to automate repetitive tasks so that their employees can focus on more critical aspects of business,” said Evan Ellis, CEO of K2. “We’re thrilled to partner with a leader in the space to bring our capabilities together and jointly expand business automation.”

The integration between the two platforms will provide organizations with the flexibility needed to use robots for tasks such as starting or updating K2 processes or having K2 call a UiPath robot to automate tasks. The full life cycle approach will enable humans and robots to work together seamlessly, which cuts down on costs and improves accuracy, compliance, and agility, K2 explained.

“We’re particularly excited about this partnership because K2 has built a native integration with our REST API and isn’t relying simply on screen-scrape integration of a form,” said David Marcus, VP of product and strategic technology alliances at UiPath. “Not only does this make it easy to coordinate multiple RPA, human and system activities seamlessly, users will also be able to effortlessly start robotic and non-robotic processes all from one integrated user experience. Furthermore, customers will also be able to bring humans into the loop effortlessly through K2, and when the human completes the task at hand, the process can be sent back to UiPath robots to keep things running.”
